When anyone wins, we all win and the celebration is real and when anyone is lost, we are all lost and sometimes knowing the sadness of it, feeling the waste and the loss, is our quiet duty and our deepest honour. I suspect that the human spirit that can soar to great heights can also sit in the silence of hopes dashed. It's hard to feel the jarring thud of disappointment without trying to rescue; without trying to cheer up; without appearing to have all the answers and yet that is THE lesson that is key to life by the Wayside.
